Moving to Pennsylvania? Keep these things in mind.
Congrats on the move! Pennsylvania is absolutely beautiful and full of interesting people and history. Of course, we’re a little biased because The Keystone State is the home of TSI (based outside of Philly - Go Birds!).
Before you make your move check out these tips:
-
Pack an overnight bag with essentials -- toothbrush and toothpaste, clean clothes, important documents. It’s moving best practice and won’t have you scrambling through tons of boxes on your first night in your new place.
-
Call ahead to set up your gas, electric, and wifi. Do your research to find the best providers in your new town. Call at least a week ahead.
-
Stop buying food sooner rather than later. You can’t move perishable food, so the sooner you stop grocery shopping the less food you’ll waste. Pennsylvania has the second largest Amish population in the country and Amish markets packed with delicious food are everywhere so you won’t be missing out.
-
Make sure your fragile goods are packed really well. The whole state has a decent amount of potholes and loose goods rattling around in a poorly packed box are subject to damage.
-
Pennsylvania experiences all four seasons. If you are moving into Pennsylvania keep in mind that there are 4 distinct seasons. All parts of the state can get snow, with some more than others. Summers get hot, and spring and fall have beautiful weather and beautiful scenery. There are mountains and lakes and rivers and hundreds of miles of wide open fields and farms between the two major cities located on either side of the state. If possible, avoid moving in the winter because snow and ice can make for dangerous road conditions.
